We are looking for umpires for the 2022 Season!
Cambridge Minor Baseball (CMBA) has a number of ways you can get involved, whether you have umpired in the past, or are new to the role.
Level 1 and 2
For 2022, the Ontario Baseball Association (OBA) is offering Level 1 and 2 clinics through an online learning module. We understand that learning to officiate is not easily done in a virtual classroom. To compliment the online modules, the CMBA is applying for a one-day, in-person training course with an OBA Clinician. This will allow us to address specific topics such as positioning, strike zones, and game management.
We invite anyone who will be 12 years old as May 1st to contact Cambridge Minor Baseball with an expression of interest. Please note the Level 1 fee is $25/umpire, and the Level 2 fee is $45/umpire. The deadline to sign up and complete these modules is May 1, 2022.
Status Exemptions
In an effort to support local associations, the OBA is offering status exemptions to umpires who were certified in 2019 or 2020, but were not certified in 2021. Penalties such as outstanding fees or a reduction in level are being waived, but this opportunity is available for a limited time.
As always, the OBA is willing to consider status exemptions for umpires who are returning after longer absences. If you would like to return as an umpire, please contact the CMBA.
Mentorship Opportunities
Officiating can be a challenging job. In an effort to assist new umpires, Cambridge Minor Baseball will continue to offer a mentorship program. We believe this provides opportunities for our umpires to grow as individuals, and as a team.
